What’s my purpose in life?
Do you find yourself asking that question often? You're not alone. There’s an entire multi-million dollar industry built around it—life coaches, spiritual leaders, seekers, thousands of books and podcasts—all devoted to this one subject: purpose.
It seems like people spend their whole lives searching for a purpose, only to miss that it is already right in front of them. It’s not hidden in a book, on a journey at the top of a mountain, or in someone else’s hands.
I can’t even count how many audiobooks I listened to in my twenties and early thirties on my commute, all centered around purpose.
But here’s what I’ve come to believe…
We’re already living our purpose.
Maybe we’re not earning an income from it—yet—and sure, that would be a bonus. But I truly believe that once you recognize what your purpose is and pour your whole heart into it, the opportunity to earn from it (if that’s what you want) will come in due time.
I believe each of us is here for a unique and specific divine reason.
We already possess our purpose—but we’re often too busy reading, striving, searching, or paying others to help us find it, that we completely miss it. We overlook the very reason we’re here and the specific gift we’re meant to give to the world.
Stop and think about what truly brings you joy—what fills your heart. If it’s reading, look for opportunities to read to the elderly in nursing homes or to children in hospitals.
Maybe your passion is cooking! Volunteer at a soup kitchen, or start your own cooking channel on YouTube. Even if you only have one subscriber, you’re still living your purpose. You’re filling your own cup—and more importantly, you’re helping someone else by sharing your gift with them.
Realizing your purpose is a lot like when someone says they met the love of their life the moment they stopped looking. The moment you stop searching is the moment the love of your life or in this case, your purpose finds you.
Your purpose finds you—the moment you stop chasing it.
I think finding our purpose is a quest and changes as we age and go through different situations.
